Do People in Heaven Know What Is Happening on Earth?

The Short Answer

The Bible gives some evidence that people with God can have awareness related to events on earth. Revelation portrays martyrs who know that justice has not yet been completed and heavenly worshippers who respond to God’s judgments.

That evidence is real, but it is limited. Revelation does not describe people in heaven receiving a constant stream of information about every family event, conversation or private decision on earth.

The safest conclusion is that God may grant awareness of His unfolding purposes. Scripture leaves the extent of that knowledge unstated, so Christians should resist turning a few visionary scenes into a detailed system.

What the Main Passages Establish

The main passages for Do People in Heaven Know What Is Happening on Earth? are Revelation 6:9-11 and Revelation 19:1-6. They should be read for the claims they actually make rather than used to fill gaps Scripture leaves open.

Questions about the dead often carry grief as well as theology. A careful answer can state what Scripture supports, identify where Christian traditions differ and leave uncertain details with God.
