The Short Answer
When Jesus speaks about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, He is responding to religious opponents who claimed that His power over demons came from an evil source. Matthew 12:22-32 and Mark 3:22-30 supply the main context.
Their words were a spiritual verdict on what they had seen. They were looking at Jesus’ work and assigning it to Satan. Mark 3:30 then explains the connection between their accusation and Jesus’ warning.
The passage warns against profound resistance to the Holy Spirit’s testimony about Christ. It should be read as part of that confrontation rather than as a detached sentence about any irreverent word a person might say.
The Meaning of Jesus’ Warning
Jesus first answers the accusation by pointing out that Satan would not sensibly destroy his own kingdom. He then describes Himself as the stronger One who can bind the strong man. His warning follows this defence of the source and meaning of His work.
The sequence matters because it shows what the opponents were refusing. They had seen an act of liberation and chose an explanation that turned the moral meaning of the event upside down.
