Am I Going to Hell for Hating Someone?

The Short Answer

Hatred can become spiritually serious because Jesus warns about contemptuous anger and the New Testament repeatedly calls Christians away from revenge. A settled desire to see another person harmed should be faced honestly.

Feeling anger after real injury is different from choosing hatred as a way of life. A victim can recognise wrongdoing and keep firm boundaries while refusing to make revenge the goal.

Your final judgment belongs to God. If hatred has taken root, repentance can begin by bringing it into the light and choosing a different direction. Christ’s mercy remains open to the person who genuinely turns.

Hatred Often Grows From Anger That Has Settled

Ephesians 4 allows anger to be acknowledged while warning against letting it become a foothold for destructive conduct. Romans 12 directs believers away from personal vengeance.

Forgiveness can be a process. A person may still feel pain while beginning to release the desire to punish the offender personally.

Hatred can also remain hidden because the person never acts violently. Jesus’ teaching reaches deeper than outward restraint. A Christian can examine whether they are feeding contempt or rehearsing revenge. That examination can lead toward forgiveness without forcing unsafe reconciliation.

If the hatred follows serious harm, the person may need time and support before emotions soften. The first faithful movement may simply be refusing to nurture revenge. That choice can coexist with grief and with a firm commitment to safety.
