AM I GOING TO HELL? SERIES · BOOK TWO
Is It Actually a Sin?
Christians ask this question about everything from sex and divorce to tattoos, gambling, alcohol, swearing, entertainment and missing church. This book examines those questions by starting with Scripture and being clear about how strong the biblical evidence really is.
Some Questions Have Clear Biblical Answers. Others Do Not.
One of the biggest problems with discussions about sin is that every issue can be treated as though the Bible addresses it with exactly the same clarity.
The biblical evidence for adultery is very different from the biblical evidence for vaping. A modern question about tattoos requires different reasoning from a question about lying.
This book tells you where Scripture is direct, where wider biblical principles must be applied and where Christians have genuine room to disagree.
A Better Way to Ask “Is It a Sin?”
Before examining individual behaviours, the book establishes a practical biblical framework for deciding how confidently Christians can speak about a moral question.
What does Scripture explicitly identify as sinful?
How should Christians approach behaviours the Bible never directly names?
What should we do when serious Christian readings reach different conclusions?
When does Scripture leave meaningful responsibility with the individual believer?
Questions Covered in the Book
Sex before marriage, adultery, pornography, lust, masturbation, divorce and remarriage.
Swearing, taking God’s name in vain, lying, gossip, anger, hatred, forgiveness, pride and jealousy.
Alcohol, drunkenness, smoking, vaping, tattoos, piercings, pork and biblical food rules.
Gambling, wealth, work, dishonesty and difficult choices where normal practice conflicts with Christian conviction.
Films, music, games and other entertainment choices Scripture does not directly name.
Missing church, working on Sunday, doubt, anger with God and losing faith.
Temptation, Thoughts and Intentions
The book also deals with questions that can become especially difficult for anxious Christians.
Is temptation itself sinful? Is every unwanted thought a moral choice? What about intrusive thoughts? Does intention change responsibility?
These questions matter because experiencing a thought is not automatically the same thing as deliberately choosing or approving it.
The Old Testament, Christian Freedom and Conscience
Questions about tattoos, food rules, Sabbath observance and other Old Testament commands cannot be answered responsibly by lifting one verse out of its covenant setting.
The book examines how Christians understand the relationship between Old Testament law and life under the new covenant, while also considering Paul’s teaching about conscience and disputed matters.
Suicide and the Question of Final Judgment
A dedicated chapter examines suicide with particular care. It separates the morality of taking life, the effect severe distress can have on responsibility and the separate question of a person’s final judgment before God.
The book does not claim that one fact about the manner of someone’s death gives another human being the authority to declare their eternal destiny.
What If Your Question Is Not Included?
The final chapter gives you a method you can continue using after the book ends.
You will learn how to examine the relevant biblical text, judge the strength of the evidence, identify where interpretation begins and reach a responsible Christian conclusion without inventing commands Scripture never gives.
A Crucial Distinction
This book asks whether particular behaviours are sinful. That question must remain separate from the question of whether committing a particular sin means someone is going to hell. The wider Am I Going to Hell? series examines both without confusing them.
