Description
AM I GOING TO HELL? SERIES · BOOK ONE
You Have Sinned. What Does That Actually Mean Before God?
Fear can turn one mistake, one repeated struggle or one terrible decision into a much bigger question: Am I going to hell? This book goes back to Scripture and examines what Christianity actually teaches about sin, Christ’s forgiveness, repentance, salvation and final judgment.
A Question That Deserves More Than a One-Line Answer
The Bible takes sin seriously. It also speaks powerfully about grace, forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ.
This study brings those teachings together so you can understand one of the most important distinctions in the entire book:
Asking whether something is sinful and asking whether committing it means you are going to hell are two different theological questions.
Pastor Ellis Carrow works through the relevant biblical passages in plain English, explains how he reads them and gives you space to examine Scripture personally before God.
What This Book Covers
Look beyond isolated mistakes and examine the Bible’s wider teaching about humanity, sin and judgment.
Consider why identifying an act as sinful does not automatically settle a person’s eternal destiny.
Study what the New Testament says about failure, growth and the continuing Christian life.
Understand repentance as an ongoing process of sincerely turning back toward God.
Explore the biblical foundation for forgiveness and why no human sin exceeds Christ’s power to forgive the person who genuinely repents.
Consider repeated failure, genuine repentance and the continuing struggle against sin.
Read Jesus’ warning in its biblical context and examine what it means for someone who genuinely wants God’s forgiveness.
Examine the biblical passages behind one of Christianity’s longest-running disagreements and understand why Christians reach different conclusions.
Salvation Is Not a Points System
Many people quietly imagine judgment as a balance sheet. Do enough good and perhaps the good outweighs the bad. Commit too many sins and perhaps the balance tips the other way.
That is not how this book understands the Christian message of salvation.
Good works matter. Sin matters. Repentance matters. Yet Scripture does not present salvation as a mathematical calculation in which God totals every good deed and every failure before deciding your destination.
The book instead follows the Bible’s teaching about Christ, grace, faith, repentance and the believer’s continuing relationship with God.
How Far Does Christ’s Forgiveness Reach?
The book takes serious sin seriously. Some actions cause enormous harm. Repentance after grave wrongdoing may involve accepting consequences, acknowledging what has been done and making changes that cannot be achieved overnight.
The seriousness of a sin does not create a point where God’s ability to forgive simply runs out.
A central conviction of this book:
No human sin exceeds Christ’s power to forgive the person who genuinely repents and turns toward Him.
Difficult Questions Are Faced Directly
- What if I commit a terrible sin?
- What if I keep committing the same sin?
- What if I die immediately after sinning?
- What is the unforgivable sin?
- Can someone lose their salvation?
- Are all sins equal?
- Can Christians continue to sin after being saved?
- Who ultimately decides whether someone is saved?
- I have sinned. What should I actually do now?
Scripture First
The purpose of this book is not to tell you what a particular denomination requires you to believe.
The biblical text comes first. Where Christians genuinely disagree, the major interpretations are explained fairly. Pastor Ellis Carrow then explains how he understands the passages and why.
Here is the Scripture. Here is how I read it. As Christians, each of us has a responsibility to read these words carefully and consider the message we believe they were intended to communicate.
That approach allows difficult passages to remain difficult while keeping the reader responsible for examining Scripture personally before God.
